From 1977 to 1981, he worked as a senior resident in nephrology and internal medicine at Queen's University Belfast (United Kingdom).
In 1975 and 1976, he worked as the Senior Registrar in Nephrology and Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
